Our Story
Wiki was founded by a team of four students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. Despite coming from different career paths and academic backgrounds, they shared one common, daily struggle: campus transportation. Plagued by long queues, unsafe rides, and unpredictable pricing, they set out with a single, unified goal: to solve the transport issues bugging their campus once and for all.
What started as a student project grew into Wiki — the campus-native ride-hailing platform built to digitise and secure campus transportation, starting with OAU, and expanding across 170+ tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Why Campuses?
Campus communities represent a unique transport market:
- ✓ High density, repeat-use transport markets ideal for network effects
- ✓ Near-universal smartphone penetration among students
- ✓ Lack of coverage from global transport players
The Secret Sauce: Live Negotiation
Unlike traditional apps with fixed pricing, Wiki allows drivers and riders to counter-offer within secure guardrails (from 0.6x to 2.5x of the auto-calculated fare). This mirrors the deeply ingrained Nigerian transport culture of price bargaining, but brings it into the digital age with structure, security, and dispute resolution.
The Founders
Wiki is built by OAU students who live in the very market they serve. The team combines technical expertise with a first-hand understanding of campus student needs.
